What is the Process of Breast Reduction Surgery?

During breast reduction surgery, the breast tissue is reshaped according to the physical size of the person. Excess breast tissue and breast skin is removed, and the nipple is repositioned upwards. ⠀
The breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia and may last for 2.5 to 4 hours. ⠀
After breast reduction surgery, the patient will have drains placed in both breasts to remove the fluid accumulating between tissues; and the drains will be removed 1 to 2 days later. Immediately after the surgery, special bandages like bras will be used. The dressing is changed after 1 week. ⠀
Post-operative complications include swelling, bruising and loss of nipple sensitivity. These complications can resolve within one week. Patients can return to socialization generally within one week. Patients are advised to avoid heavy exercise and strenuous movements.
